Rain and Reduced Visibility

When it rains, **visibility is reduced** for several reasons:
- Drops on the **windshield, windows, and mirrors**; the **wipers** do not remove all the water, and there may be **interior fogging**.
- **Headlights** lose effectiveness: the light **scatters** in the drops, and there are **reflections and glare** on the wet pavement and puddles.
- **Road markings** and horizontal signs lose contrast or are covered by water; the **spray** from other vehicles creates a "curtain" that makes it difficult to see.

For all these reasons, visibility is worse, and it is necessary to exercise extreme **caution** when driving in the rain.
