A car wants to cross this area. Must it give way?
Right of way
Explanation
Cyclists’ priority on cycle lanes
- Cyclists have **right of way** over motor vehicles when riding on a **cycle lane**, a **cycle crossing**, or a **properly signposted hard shoulder**.
- They also retain priority:
- When riding **in a group** and the first has already begun to cross or has entered a **roundabout**.
- When a motor vehicle **turns right or left** to enter another road and there is a **nearby cyclist**.
Practical application: if a passenger car is going to cross a **cycle lane**, it must **give way** to the cyclists riding on it.
