Explanation
Use of the centre lane on a 2+1 road
A **2+1 road** has **three lanes** and allows traffic in **both directions**.
- The **centre lane** is used, as a general rule, to **facilitate overtaking**.
- This lane **is not for continuous use**, but is **alternately reserved** for one direction of travel or the other, according to the traffic signs and road markings.
- In this way, each direction has, on certain sections, **two lanes**: one normal lane and an additional one for **safer overtaking**.
This sign may also indicate an **access slip road** leading to a 2+1 road.
