Does this sign always require you to stop?
Signage: Vertical signs
Explanation
Priority of the STOP in relation to traffic lights
- The R-2 (**STOP**) sign requires you to **come to a complete stop** always: at the **stop line** or, if there isn’t one, **before the intersection**.
- After stopping, you must **give way** to the road you are entering.
- **Exception**: if a **traffic light** controls the junction and **permits you to proceed**, the traffic light **takes precedence** and it is not necessary to stop at the STOP.
- Order of priority of signals in case of contradiction: **traffic officers** > **traffic lights** > **vertical signs** (such as the STOP) > **road markings**.
