Does this sign require you to stop?
Signage: Vertical signs
Explanation
Obligation to stop at the STOP sign (R-2)
The **R-2 “Stop” sign or STOP** indicates the **obligation to bring the vehicle to a complete stop**:
- You must **always** stop, even if it seems that no one is coming.
- The stop must be made **at the stop line**; if there is no line, **immediately before the junction**.
- After stopping, you must **give way** to vehicles driving on the road you are entering.
If, after the first stop, there is **insufficient visibility** (for example, due to obstacles or the layout of the road), the driver must:
- Move forward with **maximum caution** to a point with better visibility.
- **Stop again** where they can see the traffic, without endangering other road users.
**Failure** to comply with the obligation to stop at a **STOP** or **give way** sign may result in the loss of **4 points** from the driving licence.
