This distance is expressed by the **number of chevron road markings** that must be **between one vehicle and the one ahead of it**.
That is, the driver must leave **at least the number of chevrons indicated on the sign** between their vehicle and the vehicle in front, using those markings painted on the carriageway as a visual reference to maintain the safety gap.
