Signage: Vertical signs
Explanation
Sign S-261: advance signing of services
Sign S-261 **indicates that an exit is approaching** on a conventional road with **heavy traffic** or on a **multi-lane road** leading to certain **services** (petrol station, recharging point, restaurant, etc.).
- If the services are in a **built-up area**, the **name of the town** may appear on the first line.
- If they are on a **service road**, the indication **“service road”** will appear.
- When there is a **service station** and/or **recharging station**, the following will be indicated:
- the **distance** to that station,
- its **opening hours**.
- On the **lower additional panel**, the **distance and opening hours** of the **next** service and/or recharging station in the same direction of travel are shown.
- In the **upper box**, the **distance to the exit** where those services are accessed is indicated.
Its main purpose is to **warn the driver in advance** of the existence of a nearby exit so they can change lane and reduce speed in good time.
