Signage: Vertical signs
Explanation
Advance direction sign towards motorway or dual carriageway from a conventional road
Sign **S-232a** indicates, on a **conventional road** or **multi-lane road**, two main things:
- **The own direction** of the road you are driving on.
- **The destinations of the next exit** when that exit leads to a **motorway** or **dual carriageway**.
It also indicates the **distance** to that exit.
It is usually placed **above the carriageway**, before the junction or interchange, to provide **advance direction signing** for the manoeuvre:
it helps to clearly distinguish which lanes continue on the **current route** and which lead to the **exit towards the motorway or dual carriageway**.
